Xbox handheld console could be powered by AMD Z2 Extreme
AMD Z2 Extreme is expected to be released early next year. This new processor promises better battery life and performance gains of up to 25 percent over the Z1 Extreme. AMD allegedly tested the processor with Black Myth: Wukong to test the processor.
Xbox officials were also present during AMD’s presentation. This strengthens speculation that the two companies are working together for the new handheld console.
AMD’s main goal with the Z2 Extreme is to more than double playtime and multiply battery life. This means it could be an important marketing material compared to existing portable devices. The use of the new chip by Xbox will help it go up against competitors like Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally.
A previous report claimed that Microsoft is working to expand the Xbox ecosystem beyond traditional consoles. Accordingly, Microsoft has reportedly developed a custom prototype that runs games on-device rather than relying on the cloud.
